Once asleep, we begin a series of ‘sleep cycles’ that occur throughout the night. Each cycle lasts 90-120 minutes, meaning someone sleeping for 8 hours in a night would experience 5 cycles. Each cycle is comprised of 3-4 ‘non-REM’ stages and ends with an REM stage (REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement.)
Sleep and your skin:
During the REM phases of sleep we experience during the night, skin regeneration and repair are at their greatest. In fact, did you know that:
- Skin cell regeneration almost doubles during the night as the body repairs the damage done during the day.
- The majority of cell repair occurs during REM sleep, and proliferation of skin cells is greatest at midnight.
It is for this reason that we created our Qsilica BEAUTY SLEEP products, which are designed to help prepare you for a good night’s sleep, as well as accelerate the cellular regeneration process which occurs during your REM sleep.
